The Curtain Coating Head is the core component of a curtain coating machine (also known as a curtain coater or, an industrial coating device that applies a uniform liquid film onto flat substrates through a free-falling curtain of coating material. The coating is pumped into the inner cavity of the head and flows downward from a narrow precision gap, forming an even, continuous curtain that coats the workpiece surface as it passes underneath at a controlled speed.

Working Principle

Coating Supply: Coating material is delivered by a transfer pump from a storage tank into the inner cavity of the curtain coating head.

Curtain Formation: The coating flows out through a narrow, precision-machined slit (the curtain nozzle or knife gap), forming a continuous, free-falling curtain of uniform thickness.

Substrate Coating: Flat workpieces are conveyed on a belt and pass through the falling curtain at a constant speed. The coating uniformly covers the entire surface in a single pass.

Coating Thickness Control: The film thickness can be precisely adjusted by regulating the pump flow rate, conveyor speed, and the gap of the curtain knife. The minimum achievable coating thickness can be as low as 0.06mm.

Coating Recovery: Excess coating that is not applied to the workpiece falls into a collection trough beneath the head and is filtered and recirculated back to the supply tank, minimizing waste and reducing material costs.
